4. Insurance Companies: Delayed Payments and Denial of Care

Medical Information

Beyond the malpractice issue, another significant hurdle doctors face comes from insurance companies. Physicians frequently encounter delayed payments for services rendered, and, in many cases, insurance companies outright deny coverage for treatments or refuse to pay for care after a patient has already been treated.

This inefficient system creates enormous administrative burdens for doctors. Many practices have more staff dedicated to insurance recovery work than medical staff providing patient care. The result is a system where doctors are spending more time and resources fighting insurance companies than treating patients.

By getting involved in politics, doctors can advocate for legislative reforms that hold insurance companies accountable for timely payments and fair coverage decisions. Policies that streamline the insurance claims process and protect physicians from excessive administrative burdens can make a huge difference in the day-to-day functioning of medical practices.
